Steve DeHart was named head athletic trainer for Dominican athletics in August of 2021.
DeHart came to Dominican after spending six years as the head athletic trainer for Novato High School while also serving as the founding athletic trainer for the Sutter Health Hospital Outreach program. At Novato, DeHart oversaw the training programs for 24 teams. He started his athletic training career at Yuba Community College in 2003 before moving to Nevada Union High school for a single season in 2006. DeHart then gained experience at the NCAA Division I level as the Director of Athletic Training at Sacramento State from 2007-10. There he oversaw 19 teams including the Hornets football team.
He moved on to spend more time on his own private business, DeHart Athletic Training Services, and the daily upbringing of his daughter from 2010-15 before his time at Novato. He has run the private practice intermittently for the past 24 years. He also returned from 2010-14 to Nevada Union High School to help with their athletic training and assisting in coaching his daughter in high school basketball. In the past, he interned for the San Francisco 49ers and volunteered as an athletic trainer for the track and field Olympic Trials as well as the NCAA Division I track and field and women’s volleyball championships.
DeHart earned a degree in kinesiology with an athletic training emphasis from Sacramento State in 2002. He earned his certification in massage therapy from the National Holistic Institute in 1991. He is currently a NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer, BLS Healthcare Provider American Heart Association and ImPACT Trained Athletic Trainer (ITAT).
DeHart competed at Utah State and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in football, basketball at Cuesta College and track and field at Coly Poly and Cuesta. He set a personal best of 6’10” in the high jump in college. A member of a highly athletic family, His step-father Avery Blake Jr. is in the class of 1979 for the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame from Swarthmore College and his brother Greg played professional baseball at the AAA level. His daughter, Samantha, played basketball at Chico State. He currently resides in Novato with his wife, Kelli Hudson.
