SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Dominican University of California men's basketball player
Connor Haysbert has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Team for District 8 (West Region). The honor was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
There are eight geographic districts comprised of five student-athletes. Haysbert is joined on the District 8 team by David Downs and Riley Stockton of Seattle Pacific, Teancum Stafford of Alaska Anchorage, and Chico State's Sean Park.
A biological sciences major, Haysbert boasted a 3.72 cumulative GPA through the fall semester. He has started 20 of Dominican's 21 games, having missed one game due to concussion — the only game he has not appeared in during his four-year career. He has been an instrumental part in Dominican's success this season, which included a 6-0 start, the best in school history.
The senior center from Sacramento, Calif. (Center HS) scored a career-high 26 points and matched a career-high with 12 rebounds at Point Loma on Jan. 30 after the news was released. He has tallied at least 17 points six times this season en route to averaging 13.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He is shooting 61 percent (100-of-165) from the field.
Additionally, Haysbert has been nominated for 2014 Allstate NABC Good Works Team® and is a two-time member of the Pacific West Conference All-Academic Team. Last season in 2012-13, he was a two-time PacWest Fantastic 15 honoree and a member of National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma. As a sophomore, Haysbert earned PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll recognition.
Haysbert now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
