BOX SCORE

La Jolla, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's soccer team dropped its season opener to UC San Diego 6-0 on Thursday night. The Lady Penguins were tested early and often, as the Tritons came out firing and scored at the four-minute mark. UCSD added a pair of goals before heading into the half and tacked on three more goals in the second half.

Dominican (0-1-0) was limited to just five shots. Sophomore Julianna Bratsberg, who was shelved last season with a hip injury, took two shots, one of which was on goal. Goalie Megan Herring made five saves and keeper Kelly Calton made one save.

The Tritions (1-0-0), picked to finish 20th in the 2010 NSCAA Preseason Top 25 National Poll and first in the CCAA, amassed 12 shots on goal. UCSD was led by Annette Ilg and Lisa Bradley, who each scored a pair of goals. Sara Bolton added three assists and Courtney Capobianco tallied a pair of assists. Anne Wethe and Gabi Hernandez rounded out the balanced Triton attack with a goal apiece.

The Dominican women will look for their first win of 2010 on Saturday, September 4 when they head to Cal Poly Pomona. Kickoff against the Broncos is set for 2:00 p.m.
