Goodwin resigns as Head Volleyball Coach

Roger Goodwin compiled an 88-98 record in eight seasons at Dominican.
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Roger Goodwin, who compiled 88 wins in eight seasons as women's volleyball coach at Dominican University of California, has resigned.

“The highlights for me are always watching the growth and development of the players and seeing them graduate and becoming successful in their careers that they prepared for at Dominican,” Goodwin said.

“We would like to thank Roger and we appreciate his many years of service and his contributions to helping grow our volleyball program,” said Dominican Director of Athletics Terry Tumey. “As (interim) director of athletics last year, he steered us in the initial phases of entering NCAA Division II. We wish him the best of luck.”

In a four-year span from 2003-07 in NAIA, the Penguins won 52 games and were co-California Pacific Conference champion with Holy Names University in 2007 with a 12-2 league record, 14-9 overall.
Dominican is transitioning into NCAA Division II and joined the Pacific West Conference this season. The Penguins posted an overall record of 6-24, 1-13 in their new league. Goodwin's overall record at Dominican was 88-98.

A native of Southern California, Goodwin started the Ichiban Volleyball Club in the late 1970s and built it into a powerhouse club team in the Long Beach area. While at Ichiban, Goodwin trained two-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor.

Tumey said the University will begin a search for Goodwin's successor this week.
