SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Dominican University of California women's basketball team was simply outmatched on Tuesday night in a lopsided 126-74 exhibition loss to NCAA D-I Sacramento State.

The Hornets began the game's first 4:29 of play by shutting down Dominican and jumping out to a 20-0 lead. Twenty first-half turnovers killed the Lady Penguins, as Sac State never looked back and extended the halftime lead to 64-32.

Dominican made 15-of-36 shots (.417) from the field in the second half but it wasn't enough as the Lady Penguins were outscored 62-42 in the the second half.

"We shot the ball well in the second half but those turnovers in the first half cost us," said Dominican Head Coach Brianna Chambers. "We'll go back and apply what we learned tonight and use that to make us a better team as we continue to fine tune for conference play."

Tammy Brawner was one of three Lady Penguins to reach double-digit scoring and led Dominican with 18 points.  Michaelia Baskerville scored 16 points and Kimi Nakamura had two three-pointers and finished the night with 10 points. Emily Dunn and Raquel Gomes each added eight points in the loss. Gomes pulled down a team-leading 12 rebounds.

Seven Sac State players scored in double figures, four of which turned in double-doubles. Nneka Payne led the Hornets with 17 points. Erika Edwards made four three-pointers en route to a 16 point, 10 rebound night.

The Lady Penguins will host the Dominican alumnae on Sunday, Nov. 15. Tipoff with the elder Lady Penguins is set for 1:00 p.m at the Conlan Center.

On Monday, Nov. 16 the Dominican women kick things off with non-conference play against Cal Poly Pomona. The Broncos are led by Head Coach Scott Davis, who coached at Dominican from 2002-2005.
